GAMYS a compairitive measurement of internet chatter..

The following is a short rant on the subject of GAMYS (pounced Gam-mies) and why they apply to the study of just about everything. First, one must understand that when dealing with GAMYS lists and their related YGAMS™ (pounced Y-Gams) atomic values, we are measuring name recognition based on Internet buzzz. It is these Name to Buzzz measurements that we are studying in relationship to each other using the GAMYS lists.

Let me try to clarify, what I have been generating and comparing here for now a little over a year, are normalized measurements of the relative level of Buzz or Chatter to be found on the indexed Internet surrounding just about anything you can simply describe in a search box. This search string or Atom in YGAMS terms, can be everything and anything that can be searched for on the Internet. These Atoms are combined into loosly related sets called GAMYS lists for the purpose of studying them in relationship to each other.

This project started over a year ago, when I wrote a program to assist me in hitting several of my favorite search engines all at once and displaying a summary of the results on my smart phone. I found studying these results to be enlightening. I soon got lost in silly parentises normalizing and studying the results. I plan to use this charts to illustrate a yet unpublished series of mutterings that I am currently working on.

The current system produces a normalized YGAMS score that accurately representing the overall level of chatter for any valid index keyword or search string. Around here we call these search strings along with their associated YGAMS score, Atoms. These YGAMS Atoms are often grouped into related GAMYS lists for study. These GAMYS charts provide a simple to understand visual display of the amount of Buzz or Chatter associated with each member of the set relative to each other.. These real world relationships quickly fueled a Game idea, more about that later.

So what is with the two names ? When I first visited "www.gamys.com" (my first choice for name) I came up with 3 sponsored sex links along with a Firefox blocked popup. Now that was a problem! It also turns out that Gamys is a common ms-spelling of Games not to mention some sexual connotations, there was no question so it looked like there was little joy to be found using that name as something I could trademark. I cared not to investigate any further at that time.

On the other hand YGAMS.COM, a dotCOM using an alternate search order was available, and better yet it had a YGAMS value of Zero, nada, nothing! It was quickly registered and became the adopted name for the project. It was at that point in time that the internal search order changed from Google, Ask, Microsoft, Yahoo, Search to Yahoo, Google, Ask, Microsoft, Search to match the newly selected and now most descriptive name. As time passed, I found that the GAMYS name has stuck around as the name most used in conversation when referring to a collection of YGAMS being studied as a set or group.

The YGAMS engine and all the GAMYS related utilities on the server are written in NewLISP a language which allowed me to mutate the YGAMS tool into an online game. In the Winner vs Looser game, the player is presented with a random selections of choices all taken from a single subject chosen at random from a game set.
The player selects which of the selections presented they think is the winner and looser based on their estimate of their relative YGAMS values. In the expert mode additional choices are added in an attempt to confuse the player and increase complexity.
The player is awarded 1 point for each correct guess both winner and looser, and a bonus point for a total of 3 points awarded if you get them both (winner and looser) correct. The unfortunate player who gets both winner and looser wrong, will they loose a point. I am working on a sliding bonus point system based on the time taken to answer each question in the next version. In the current version of the game I am just displaying contemplation time for the players own reference. Note; Questions can be slipped without any loss of score, but will affect the average score per question rating at the end of play.

YGAMS.COM is where the YGAMS™ - GAMYS Game action is!

Be warned the question set used in the current beta/test GAME SET, evolved from these example GAMYS sets. So at the chance of spoiling the game for some, I know of no better way to educate than by example. I have built the following GAMYS sets over the last year, often in answer to questions raised by friends and family along the way. Some were suggested as starting fodder for the Game.

If you have an idea of a new subject for a GAMYS list to add to the game, or are an author who would like a custom GAMY built to illustrate your favorite subject in a Blog or mutterings, feel free to contact me with your ideas... Your Host Bob Bradlee.
